Office Hours, Sunday Morning

Jean-Paul loved his sister, but so help him God, if he never had to spend another weekend in the same apartment as her? That would be good. Jeanne-Marie had gone to mass, Jean-Paul had declined to join her and gotten a look of 'your poor soul' for his troubles, and now here he was. It wasn't hiding if she could reasonably guess where he was, right?

((Open, like an office.))

Irving had been wandering the school, trying to get a feel for the place, when he spotted a name he recognized from Charlie's schedule. "Mr. Beaubier? You up for visitors?"

"Manders, Irving Manders. Charlie McGee's grandfather," Irving said, holding out one hand. "She's got you for math? How's she doing in here?"

"Yeah, I know it's not her favorite thing, but I keep tellin' her she has to do okay in this too, if she wants to get into a good college." Irving shook his hand, and then sat down across from Jean-Paul. "Listen, I got some questions about the school here. You all know that some of the kids are kinda-- different. Right?"

Irving rubbed his chin, then finally said, "Charlie's got stuff she can do. That could get her in trouble with some people. All you teachers-- you'd make sure that didn't happen, right?"

"No no, no." Irving frowned, then slowly said, "She can set fire to things. Just thinkin' about it." Was this teacher going to believe him? Hopefully. "And she's practicing." He sighed. "I just want her to be careful, is all." He gave Jean-Paul a cagey look. "You knew that, about the kids, right?

Irving gave a small sigh of relief; Charlie wasn't going to get a hard time from her teachers about it. And it sounded like the other students weren't likely to either. "It's hard to tell with these things. She says she's got friends helpin' her out. But me... I never dealt with this before she came along." He frowned. "Them government types don't come sniffing around here, do they?"

Irving gave a gusty sigh of relief. "Load off my mind, let me tell ya. She said as how it was okay, but I wanted to be sure. Charlie's a smart kid, but she is just a kid." He gave Jean-Paul a firm nod, and smiled. "Thanks for easing my mind. Anything I can do to help Charlie out here, you let me know. Okay?"
